Art for Homeschoolers Ages 4+

Family Art Ages 18 mo. - 6 years with caregiver
Come and share the artistic experience with all of your children. Toddlers will experiment with a variety of fun and safe art materials while older children explore more sophisticated concepts with some of the same and some different art materials. Materials may include clay, tempera, watercolor, chalk, fabric, etc. Each week will feature a different project. Children will work on different skill building activities while exploring media.

Clay Mania Ages 4-6
Imagine what you can make when you play and build with clay! Explore the world of clay; create one of a kind creature, tiles, pots and more. The possibilities are endless! Clay takes one week to dry then it is placed into the kiln and fired to bisque ware. Clay is either painted with non-toxic paints or ceramic glazes, which requires one more firing. From creating to glazing the process takes 3 weeks. Please be aware some pieces don't make it to the end of the process - pottery may break.

Beginning Drawing & Painting Ages 4-6
This is more then just a painting class. Students will learn about colors and a variety of paint processes as they add color to prints. We will also use clay, make handmade books and more. This class teaches basic color theory and painting skills with fun and engaging projects that also include other materials. Dress for the mess!

Mixing It Up Ages 4-6
Experiment with a variety of craft techniques in an artful way. Work with paint, plaster, and wood to create a handmade book, masks, marbled papers, and sculptures. All projects are age appropriate, fun and engaging for the student. Classes focus on a new project every week to help the student explore the world of art.

Clay Builders Ages 7-9

Drawing 101 Ages 7-9
Enhance basic drawing skills; learn about line, shape, composition, value and texture. Gain inspiration from imagination, the figure and art history. Lessons are age appropriate and follow the Strands for Massachusetts. It is recommended that students dress for mess, or bring a large art shirt to wear, smocks are available, but still be prepared for mess.

Painting 101 Ages 7-9
Students will learn the basic concepts of painting in a dynamic way while learning about the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design.

Manga Drawing Ages 10+
S
tudents will work on the development of a short story with their own character designs. The short story will be bound and shared with all students in the class. Students will also be given short reading assignments to become familiar with the style and type of cartoon Japanese artist use. Students will draw during class, going over assignments, technique problem solving, new techniques and be introduced to materials to help develop a style all their own. Students will be given a sketchbook the first day of class for weekly drawing assignments to help with the progress of their drawings. Students should be prepared to draw a lot, and have fun doing it.

Drawing & Painting from Observation
Ages 10-13
Students will learn how to create 3 dimensional space on a 2 dimensional surface using light, shadow and color. Learn several approaches by working from a still-life, photograph or self portrait.

Independent Study Groups Ages 10+
Small group setting offered for budding artists. You choose the concepts and skills you wish to develop further. The curriculum is designed based on your interest and ability. Please call Instructor Jamie McDonough for more information on curriculum development.

Teen Clay Studio Teens (13+)
Create clay pieces using hand-building techniques and wheel throwing skills. Pieces will range from sculpted figures to vessels with feet and handles. Pieces are fired and glazed. Limit 8 students. (Price includes 50 lbs. of clay, glazes and some tools, the purchase of additional tools is recommended, additional clay and glazes can be purchased for an additional fee.)

Oil & Acrylic Painting
Adults & Teens (16+)
Using oil and/or acrylic paints, experiment with color mixing while learning about color theory. Tackle the subjects that have been painted throughout history; still life, landscape, abstraction, and the figure. Try out different paint handling techniques while you develop your own personal style. A materials list will be available before classes start.

Watercolor
Adults & Teens (16+)
Perfect for beginning and intermediate watercolor students. Develop skills in color theory, drawing, style and paint application. Study master watercolorists as an aid to learning. Materials list available before classes start.

Private Art Lessons Ages 8-Adult
Have an up coming Art Show? Preparing a portfolio? Want to work on specific art skills? Then one-on-one art lessons might just be for you. Lessons are scheduled with the art teacher and are six week sessions. Some supplies provided.
